About Oriental Roaches

Oriental Roaches are sometimes misidentified as a large beetle and have been nicknamed "waterbugs" because they can be seen coming out of drains. When numbers are large or one is crushed a very pungent odor will be produce.

  • Habits: While Oriental roaches are not commonly found in most homes, they are abundant in, sewer lines, grocery stores, commercial facilities, apartment and office buildings, restaurants and hospitals.
  • Habitat: Indoors, these large roaches become abundant in damp, secluded areas like basements, crawlspaces, drain lines, sewer-ejector pits and water meter boxes. Outdoors, they can be found in ground cover, leaf litter, around stones, in planter beds and other debris.
  • Threats: People with allergies are at risk since medical studies have recently shown that cockroach allergens cause allergies and can bring on asthma attacks, particularly in young children.
